| About Pack 551
Cub Scout Pack 551
serves boys ages 7 through 10, or grades 1 through 5, in the King of
Prussia area of Pennsylvania, USA. However, scouting knows no
boundaries, so we gladly accept membership from any boy who would like
to join our pack. Cub Scouts are organized
into a Pack, and a pack has small units called
dens consisting of a neighborhood group of six to eight boys with
similar scouting experience and of the same scouting rank. Pack 551 is
currently made up of approximately 60 boys from 50 families. Our
2003, recruitment was a great success doubling the size of our pack from
the prior year.
The first level of scouts starts as early as
the first grade and is called Tiger Cubs. Tiger cubs meet twice a
month, while Wolf Cub Scouts (second graders), Bear Cub Scouts (third
graders), and Webelos Scouts (fourth and fifth graders) meet weekly.
Once a month, all of the dens and family
members gather for a pack meeting under the direction of the CubMaster
and Pack Committee Chairman. The Pack meeting is designed to be a
family event. You are encouraged to come and bring siblings to
participate. The Pack meetings are held monthly from September
through June usually in the the auditorium at the Upper Merion
Baptist Church, in King of Prussia, Pa. We also have at least one Pack
event in July and August. See the
Pack Calendar for
exact dates.
Cub Scout Pack 551 is part of the
Lafayette
District ,
Cradle
of Liberty Council,
Boy Scouts of
America. Our Chartering Partner is the
Upper Merion
Baptist Church, of King of Prussia, Pa.
Annual Pack Dues are less than fifty dollars
per year and cover National and Council
membership dues, Boy's Life Magazine, insurance, and pack expenses such
as advancements, quality unit awards, neckerchiefs on advancement (not
their initial neckerchief), Wintertime Pack Bowling or Skating Party, Blue & Gold
Banquet Dinner,
Pinewood Derby, Space Derby, and monthly pack meeting expenses. These expenses are
subsidized by the income from
the Pack's fund raising activities. As comprehensive as this is, the Pack Dues and the fund raiser do
not cover everything we schedule or do. Scouts will be called upon to
pay for crafts and supplies in their dens, and for certain activities
throughout the year and other Events that the entire pack does not participate
in.
Scouts are required to wear the
cub scout uniform to promote
teamwork and leadership. Most families find the modest investment in
scouting to be one of the least expensive recreational activities that
they will participate in.
